Katavi National Park

Katavi National Park is a remote conservation area situated in the southwestern portion of Tanzania, approximately 50 km east of Lake Tanganyika in the Mpanda District, Rukwa portion. The national park was established in 1974 and encompasses 4,471 square kilometers, rendering it the third largest national park in the country, following Ruaha and Serengeti national parks. Katavi National Park has an elevation ranging from 820 meters to 1560 meters above sea level and is renowned for its diverse wildlife, comprising 50 mammal species, including African elephants, hippos, zebras, impalas, giraffes, reedbucks, waterbucks, topis, greater kudus, elands, duikers, warthogs, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, serval cats, and primates such as monkeys, baboons, and bush babies. Additionally, it is home to reptiles like crocodiles and monitor lizards, as well as various bird species, including green pigeons, snake eagles, saddle-billed storks, Senegal plovers, knob-billed ducks, grey herons, open-billed storks, ostriches, and grey crowned cranes, among others.
